Show Guidelines
General Rules
- Steer, Hog and Lamb exhibitors must be 9 to 19 years of
age as of January 1, 2010.
- Breeding cattle exhibitors must be 9 to 21 years of age
as of January 1, 2010.
- Entry fees for Show A:
- Steers and Heifers - $40 per head
- Sheep, Hogs, and Goats - $30 per head
- Showmanship A - $10 per entry
- Entry fees for Show B:
- Steers and Heifers - $40 per head
- Sheep, Goats, and Swine - $30 per head
- Showmanship B - $10 per entry
ONLY animals entered in Show A can be entered in Show B.
Animals must be entered in Show B to be eligible for Show B Showmanship.

- Entries must be postmarked by Friday, January 20, 2010. Late entries will be accepted prior to the show, provided that space permits. Late entries will be charged an additional $20 fee per head.
- THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS ON ENTRIES
- All exhibitors must wear their assigned entry number in order to enter the show ring.
- Management reserves the right to change classes and the show schedule.
- Each exhibitor must show his/her own animal. Any
exception must be approved prior to the show by the show
management. If, and only if, a showman is currently showing
one animal and has another animal to show simultaneously, an
alternate showman is acceptable, that showman must be a 2010 WB exhibitor.
- ONLY SHAVINGS WILL BE USED FOR BEDDING FOR ALL SPECIES. BEDDING CAN BE PROVIDED BY THE EXHIBITOR OR IT WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE SHOW FOR PURCHASE. PLEASE USE DESIGNATED DUMPING AREAS ONLY!
- Exhibitors are responsible for removing their own bedding to the designated dumping areas. Failure to remove bedding will result in $20 fine per head.
- No livestock will be released until the time specified
by management, printed in the Show Schedule.
- R.V. spaces are available at the Paso Robles Event Center (some hookups are available)
for $30 per night, registration and pre-payment is required
by February 5, 2010 (See WB
Accommodations Campsite Form). No livestock will be allowed in the camping area.
- Absolutely NO consumption of alcoholic beverages is allowed on the Paso Robles Event Center
grounds.
- The additions of hair or hair-like substances are not permitted.
- Ethical treatment of all animals and ethical conduct from the exhibitor is expected at Western Bonanza.
- Any animal exhibiting signs of infectious disease or any unsightly conditions will not be permitted to show at the Western Bonanza Junior Livestock Show as determined by a veterinarian.
- No dogs allowed near the show rings. Dogs on the
fairgrounds must be on a leash at all times.
Sheep & Meat Goat Show
- Sheep and meat goat exhibitors must check-in at the office
before an official weight can be taken during the time designated by management.
- Doe and wether meat goats will be eligible
to show in 2010. All meat goats must be sheered to 3/8".
- ONLY animals entered in Show A can be entered in Show B. Animals must be entered in Show B to be eligible for Show B Showmanship.
- Sheep and meat goats are required to have a certified Scrapie tag in the ear.
- All exhibitors must wear their assigned entry number in order to enter the show ring.
- Sheep and meat goats exhibiting any active Lamb Fungus
or contagious disease will not be allowed to compete in the
Western Bonanza Junior Livestock Show. ALL sheep and meat goats will be
checked at the scale during the Official Weigh-in. The veterinarian's decision is final.
- Minimum weight requirement for meat goats is 35 pounds.
- The Sheep and Meat Goat Show will have three divisions: Prospect, Progress and Market. Classes will be broken and posted the day of the show following Official Weigh-in.
- Each exhibitor must show his/her own animal. Any exception must be approved prior to the show by the show management. If, and only if, a showman is currently showing one animal and has another animal to show simultaneously, an alternate showman is acceptable, that showman must be a 2010 WB exhibitor.
- All sheep and meat goats must be stalled in the Sheep & Goat Barn as assigned by management.
Swine Show
- All Swine exhibitors will be required to check-in at the office
before the official weight will be taken at the time designated by management.
- ONLY animals entered in Show A can be entered in Show B. Animals must be entered in Show B to be eligible for Show B Showmanship.
- All exhibitors must wear their assigned entry number in order to enter the show ring.
- The Swine Show will have three divisions: Prospect, Progress and Market. Western Bonanza Management will break and post classes on the day of the show
following Official Weigh-in.
- All swine must be penned in the Swine Barn according to stalls assigned by management.
- Each exhibitor must show his/her own animal. Any exception must be approved prior to the show by the show management. If, and only if, a showman is currently showing one animal and has another animal to show simultaneously, an alternate showman is acceptable, that showman must be a 2010 WB exhibitor.
- No snares or snare-like devices will be allowed.
- No intact males allowed.
Steer Show
- All beef exhibitors will be required to check-in at the office
before the official weight will be taken at the time designated by management.
- ONLY animals entered in Show A can be entered in Show B. Animals must be entered in Show B to be eligible for Show B Showmanship.
- All exhibitors must wear their assigned entry number in order to enter the show ring.
- The steer show will have three weight divisions: Prospect, Progress and Market. Western Bonanza management will break and post the classes on the day of the show
following official weigh-in.
- There will be three breed divisions: All Other Colors, Black, and British (Angus, Shorthorn, and Hereford steers will show together.) Official breeds will be called at the scale. Management's decision is FINAL.
- Weight and or breed discrepancies must be
decided before the animal leaves the scale.
- Each exhibitor must show his/her own animal. Any exception must be approved prior to the show by the show management. If, and only if, a showman is currently showing one animal and has another animal to show simultaneously, an alternate showman is acceptable, that showman must be a 2010 WB exhibitor.
- California Club Calf Association rules will apply to their classes.
- No severe halter chains will be allowed.
- Blocking chutes will be allowed in designated areas ONLY.
- The addition of hair or hair-like substances are not permitted.
- No hay or bedding products are permitted in the covered horse arenas as mandated by Paso Robles Event Center Management.
Heifer Show
- All heifers must be registered in the name of the exhibitor. Registration papers are to be checked at the Livestock Office by Friday, February 12,
2010 by
9:00pm.
- All breeding cattle exhibitors are required to send a copy of official registration papers with the entry form and ORIGINAL REGISTRATION PAPERS ARE REQUIRED AT "SHOW CHECK-IN".
- All commercial heifer exhibitors will be required to check-in at the office
before the official weight will be taken at the time designated by management.
- All commercial heifers will be shown according to weight. Heifers will be weighed on Friday, February 12th from 4 to 7 pm
- ONLY animals shown in Show A can be entered in Show B. Animals must be entered in Show B to be eligible for Show B Showmanship.
- All exhibitors must wear their assigned entry number in order to enter the show ring.
- Breed show order is:
Rotation 1: Angus, AOB
Rotation 2: Maine-Anjou/MaineTainer, Shorthorn
Rotation 3: Hereford, Commercial
- If a breed show does not have 10 entries, management reserves the right to move these animals into the All Other Breeds classes.
- Breeding Cattle Age Limits: Must be born on,
or before July 1, 2009 and cannot be born before January
1, 2008.
- Bred and Owned Divisions will be offered in all breeds, except Commercial in Show A. Exhibitors in the Bred and Owned Division must be the breeder and first owner, and continuous owner of the animal entered. Breeder is defined as the recorded owner of the dam at the time of service. First owner is defined as the recorded owner of the dam at the time the calf is born.
- Only breed association added premiums will be paid for the Shorthorns, Herefords,
Maine-Anjou and MaineTainers. Each breed's
association rules will be in effect and their rules will
supersede those of the Western Bonanza. All exhibitors
must be members of their respective Junior Breed
Association to receive association premiums.
- All Maine-Anjou females must be 3/4 in blood to
compete in the Maine-Anjou Show. MaineTainer females are registered as 1/4 to 5/8 in blood. Appendix Shorthorn females (green papers) will be shown in the All Other Breeds Show.
- Age Division Champions will be awarded, where appropriate, for CJLA Bonus Points.
- No hay or bedding products are permitted in the covered horse arenas as mandated by Paso Robles Event Center Management.
Sheep, Swine, and Meat Goat Showmanship
- Must be age 9 as of January 1, 2010: Junior Division - 9 to 12 years; Intermediate Division - 13 to 15 years; Senior Division - 16 to 19 years.
- Payout for showmanship will be divided among the top placing individuals in each division.
- All exhibitors must show their own animal. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- Animals must be entered in Show B to be eligible for Show B Showmanship.
Beef Showmanship
- Must Be age 9 as of January 1, 2010: Junior Division - 9 to 12 years;
Intermediate Division - 13 to 15 years; Senior Division - 16 to 19 years.
- Heifer Showman Senior Division ages are 16 to 21 years.
- Payout for showmanship will be divided among the top placing individuals in each division.
- All exhibitors must show their own animal. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- Beef showmanship will combine heifers and steers.
- Animals must be entered in Show B to be eligible for Show B Showmanship.
- Fitting is optional for beef showmanship.
